Monitor connection for Mac

With the continuous development of interface standards, it has a number of display connections, currently these methods can be used, choose a right cables for your Mac when you want to watch Blu-ray Movie and stream it on a wide-screen:

VGA - Display for VGA interface

VGA interface specification that history can be traced back to the era of CRT monitors popular (some readers may have never used a CRT monitor, you're so lucky), is still active in a variety of display devices. Currently the production of LCD monitors, and some models still support this interface.

VGA signal transmission "analog" signal - it uses the cable at the same time the transmission of red, green and blue (RGB) primary colors, level sync signal, vertical sync signal and monitor settings related information. With VGA signal transmitted, the Mac output is a digital signal, so the digital signal into an analog signal, the analog signal into a digital signal and then received by a display appears. Transmission analog signal means no parity, retransmission, so there will be fading and interference in the transmission of the screen. But do not worry, the picture distortion caused by the analog signal may be the naked eye cannot distinguish, so VGA is still a good choice.

DVI - VGA, HDMI interface display adapter can also be used.

VGA interface with the transmission of analog signals, DVI interface is designed such as liquid crystal display digital display equipment design, which uses digital signal transmission screen. There is no distortion.

Some older Mac with a Mini-DVI interface, its functionality and DVI interface is exactly the same (but smaller volume), only need one adapter can be connected to the display of support for DVI input.

Dual-Link DVI - VGA, DVI and HDMI interface display adapter can also be used.

DVI interface can only transmit one screen, you can think of it as the interface simply plug a cable. The Dual-Link DVI DVI interface pin made some changes so that it can transmit two-way screen (equivalent to two to plug in an interface cable). Stronger picture transmission capacity means that it can support the resolution beyond the limit of DVI and VGA transmission (such as resolution up to 2560x 1600 Apple 30-inch retina screen displays). Switch to the feeling of this display from the 11-inch MacBook Air 1366 x 768 screen.

HDMI - VGA, DVI interface display through the adapter can also be used.

HDMI DVI interface based on a reform of the transmission of video, audio signals on the same cable. So it is necessary to transmit sound and video equipment commonly uses this interface.

Mini DisplayPort - VGA, DVI, Dual-Link DVI and HDMI interface display adapter can also be used

VESA - Video Electronics Standards Association and to replace VGA and DVI interface, DisplayPort specification. MiniDisplayPort is an implementation of this specification. This interface from 2009, but the market share is not particularly high, it displays is comparatively small.

Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt Display adapter can support the vast majority of the market. Thunderbolt and Mini DisplayPort interface looks exactly the same: they use exactly the same interface Physical Specifications; The Thunderbolt also utilizes the DisplayPort standard.

This does not preclude the Thunderbolt as a new generation of interface: it is not simply born to support the transmission screen, support simultaneous transmission of multiple signals.

Apple Thunderbolt displays by simultaneously support USB, Ethernet, and display cascade. It looks and MiniDisplayPort, but the transmission of information, Thunderbolt monitor connected directly to the Mini DisplayPort interface is not working.
