1080p resolution high-definition format is not yet universal. The more exaggerated 4096 × 2160 already is the way. This the 4K level of resolution provides more than 880 million pixels, in order to achieve the quality of the film-more than four times equivalent to the current top-level 1080p. 4K standard is now being employed in an increasing basis in commercial digital cinema projection using the 4096 x 2160 pixel option, where more and more films are shot or mastered in 4K, or upscale from 2K (1998x1080 for 1.85:1 aspect ratio or 2048 x 858 for 2.35:1 aspect ratio). Also, 4K, under its official consumer label, Ultra HD, is beginning to be implemented into the home theater environment, using the 3840 x 2160 pixel option, via both a growing number of home theater receivers that have either 4K pass-through and/or 4K video up scaling capability, as well as some 3D-TVs and 3D video projectors.


4K in Future

With the entire film industry now behind the Blu-ray video format, it seems we should expect to see any platform changes this year, but should hope to see Blu-ray to introduce an UHD/4K delivery platform in 2014 to go with the televisions hitting the market this year.
